Derek Curtis is an artist who explores the way nature and the natural world is represented in today’s society. The ideas for his paintings and sculptures evolve from the use of everyday materials in conjunction with cultural, political and art historical references. This is emphasised through a playfulness, that approaches the seriousness of the subject matter with a gentle humour which under pins his work.

In the exhibition “ The Hunt “ at Charlie Dutton Gallery, Curtis produces a series of new works which play and respond to the traditional sport of hunting. The interpretations and observations the artist makes of the protagonists in these events unfold like picture stories, with the characters and there surroundings forming contemporary narratives rendered in glorious Technicolor.
