Having explored Landscape painting in the "Utopia"
series, it seems a natural progression to start looking at the other "low end" of
painting, the Still life.
One of the greatest pressures on all of us is time. It is
always a constant losing battle. Especially as an artist when you just want
space and time to create, but also have to do annoying little things like put
food on the table, pay the rent, etc (I know self indulgent moan) . Anyhow time
is inescapable and seems an interesting subject matter to explore through my
contemporary style of painting. Creating new versions of the traditional still
life's. I having been looking at the Dutch paintings of the 16th Century,
especially the " Vanitas" pieces, and it's comparison with today's alternative -
advertising and fashion imagery.
